Hello Bitch Beer Listeners!

Thank you for listening to our interview with Second Self Brewmaster, Zuri Coleman. We had a great time that night and a couple of weeks after the interview I went to their Girl Scout Cookie and Beer pairing. They are known for having amazing beer and killer events.

The night we interviewed Zuri was the same night as Jen Price’s event- Chicks Get Lit. This was also attended by the wonderful ladies of Girls Pint Out, so basically it was a powerhouse of women in beer all in one tasting room. Pretty awesome.

As you can see, their taproom is HUGE and filled with super fun stuff. They have big projector that plays movies on loop, board games, and most importantly a giant bar with a great selection of their amazing brews.

Now on to the Girl Scout Cookie Tasting.

We’ll start with my all time favorite Thai Wheat – this was paired with the long time Girl Scout classic, Do-si-dos. The peanut butter sandwich cookie paired with the lemon grass and hint of ginger in the Thai Wheat was A-MA-ZING. I didn’t think they would go well together, but because Thai wheat goes so well with Thai food (surprise!) the peanut butter acts like a peanut Thai dish and they compliment each other so well! It was smooth and not too sweet.

Second, we taste Bleeding Heart, this is their amber ale brewed with cocoa and vanilla. This brew is absolutely divine and actually tastes like Red Velvet cake! This was paired with the Girl Scout classic, Samoa. The caramel and chocolate with coconut was a gorgeous pairing with bleeding heart! It was rich, smooth, and such an amazing combo. All of the flavors swirled together into a glorious dessert mouth-gasm! YUM!

Next up, we have Scavenger IPA paired with the Tagalong! The Scavenger IPA is their black IPA with burnt sugar/ toasty hints. Paired with the smooth peanut butter of the tagalong really took the edge off of the bitterness from the IPA. It enhances the Smokey flavor and was a great pairing.

Finally we have my favorite pairing, the Mole Porter and the Thin Mint! For starters, the rich, coffee flavors in the mole really complimented the minty chocolate in the thin mint. The Mole isn’t my favorite beer, because I’m not a fan of licorice, which is definitely present in the Mole, but mixed with the thin mint it was delicious! There’s also a spicy note in the mole that is matched by the minty kick in the thin mint.

Overall I was really impressed by the pairings with the Girl Scout cookies! Gold star to Second self for such a creative event to mix childhood favorites with adult flavors! Second Self is known for having really great events such as beer yoga, they are also dog and child friendly so each visit to the tap room is a great time for the whole family. If you haven’t made it out to their tap room yet, I highly recommend giving them a visit!
